Burwood Inn ( Toronto )
The elegant downtown Toronto Victorian Bed & Breakfast with bright red door. Welcome to Burwood Inn , an intimate bed & breakfast on a quiet cul-de-sac in vibrant, cosmopolitan, downtown , Toronto, Canada. Your host, Dave and his assistants Morgan and Terrisita, would like to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
Burwood Inn, c.1886, one of 17 grand, brick, terrace houses in the historic row of Monteith St., opened to its first guests in 1999. Our elegant townhouse overlooks pretty, shady Cawthra Square Park to the south, which provides a quiet, retreat in the middle of all the hustle of a busy metropolis. Lord Thompson of Fleet, founder of the Thompson publishing empire and ancestor of the present day Hudson Bay/Zellers retail empire family, was born on our street.
The house was renovated in the 1970's by previous owners who added all of today's modern amenities while retaining the proportions and grandeur of a century home. Burwood Inn is small with only five bedrooms, all with private baths. Unlike some Bed & Breakfasts where you live in the owner's space, at Burwood the entire ground floor is given to the guests to share and includes a living room, deck, dining room and fully equipped kitchen. Guests enjoy maximum privacy, yet with ample opportunity to meet other guests. The host lives downstairs in separate quarters and is available most of the day .
Whether you're visiting on business or pleasure ,Burwood Inn's great location is just a 10 min. walk to Yonge and Bloor, crossroads of the city and subway system. Here you will find multicultural dining, art galleries, nightlife and exclusive shopping in chic Yorkville, Holt-Renfrew, Bloor Street boutiques, Manulife Centre (with its spectacular 52nd floor Panorama lounge) and Cumberland Court. Nearby are The Royal Ontario Museum, Bata Shoe museum, Gardiner Ceramics Museum, and Un of Toronto art gallery. Catch a movie at the Varsity or Cumberland 4 art cinemas. Enjoy a play at the New Yorker theatre, Hart House theatre, watch dance at the Betty Oliphant theatre, hear a music recital at The Royal Conservatory or a TV show taping at the CTV studios on Yonge. The Rosedale ravine park and bike path are just minutes away. Wellesley and Yonge/Bloor subway stations nearby give easy, quick access to the rest of the city. Though Toronto, is a huge metropolis, it is easy to explore and enjoy the collection of vibrant downtown neighbourhoods, like Victorian Cabbagetown, wealthy Rosedale, the Church St. gay village, Greektown on the Danforth, Little Italy, Chinatown, Korea town, Portugal Village, the India Bazaar on Gerrard and others. Toronto's efficient, safe and clean transit system or abundant cruising taxis can take you everywhere you need to go.
